Recently, Zhou Bo, secretary of the District Agricultural and Industrial Committee and director of the District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, led a team to the National Museum of Nature to visit and investigate the "Meet the Light of Life" self-luminous plant micro-exhibition held by Beijing Shenbi Dongsheng Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as Shenbi Biotech) here, and learn about the research and development results and transformation of the company's scientific research projects. Zhu Ying, deputy director of the District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau, participated in the survey.
The company is a subsidiary of Hefei Shenbi Biotechnology Co., Ltd. and has recently officially settled in Dongsheng Town, Haidian District. Its self-constructed bioluminescence technology system has successfully integrated the key characteristics of luminescent organisms in nature such as fireflies into plants such as tobacco and sunflowers. It has applied advanced biosynthetic technology to achieve endogenous and continuous light emission in plants. It has developed the world's first self-luminous sunflower at night, opening up a new direction in the field of plant green lighting.
At the exhibition site of the National Museum of Natural History, each luminous plant empowered by technology exudes soft and mysterious fluorescence, like a constellation of stars quietly nurtured by the earth. The research team experienced the visual shock brought by biotechnology at close range, and had close communication with the person in charge of Shenbi Biology on the huge application potential and industrialization process of luminous plant varieties in ornamental agriculture, ecological landscape and other fields, and carefully painted a new picture of the integrated development of agriculture and living space in the future.
In the next step, the District Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau will actively promote technical cooperation between Shenbi Bio and the district tissue culture laboratory, integrate the company's precise design capabilities in the field of plant gene editing with the district tissue culture laboratory's mature system in efficient seedling propagation, and accelerate the large-scale implementation of excellent sources of luminescent plants in Haidian. At the same time, we will continue to focus on cutting-edge fields such as synthetic biology and gene editing, and continue to accelerate the transformation of "laboratory results" into "new productivity" through policy guidance, platform construction and precise services, and inject Haidian wisdom into high-quality agricultural development.
