good news! After multiple rounds of laboratory iterations, Shenbi Biology has successfully achieved a milestone breakthrough in plant luminescence brightness!



The core of this breakthrough is that we have successfully built an independent technology system with "the world's first dual-gene (TAL tyrosine pathway) pathway patent" as the core, which systematically solves the pain point of low luminous efficiency of traditional technology from the four major dimensions of pathway efficiency, protein stability, expression localization and enzymatic reaction regulation.

Core patented pathway: dual-gene regulation to achieve efficiency jump
Traditional technology usually uses the phenylalanine metabolism pathway, which requires the activation of 5-6 endogenous genes (CM1 gene, PAT gene, ADT2 gene, PAL1 gene, C4H gene, 4CL1 gene) for complex coordinated expression, resulting in lengthy regulatory links, excessive mutual interference, and serious energy and product losses.

We have taken a new approach and independently developed a new TAL tyrosine pathway, which requires only two genes to accurately control the synthesis of luminescent substrates, bypassing redundant links and making the substrate conversion efficiency more than 30 times that of traditional technologies. This technology path, which has obtained exclusive global patent authorization, provides core support for plants to emit high-brightness light.

Anti-degradation small peptide modification: improve the stability of luminescent enzyme
Even with an efficient substrate, if the enzyme that catalyzes the light emission is unstable, the light will quickly decay. Traditional luminescent enzymes are easily recognized and degraded by proteases in plants.

Our innovation lies in the clever introduction of a specific anti-degradation small peptide tag into the coding sequence of the luminescent enzyme. This design can effectively shield the recognition site of the degrading enzyme and inhibit unnecessary ubiquitination modifications, thereby significantly extending the half-life of the luminescent enzyme in the plant from 48 hours to 168 hours, and increasing its steady-state expression by more than 3 times, ensuring that the luminescence brightness remains stable after the enzyme catalyzes the substrate.
Artificially assisted enzymatic optimization: enhancing catalytic reaction efficiency
The essence of luminescence is a series of precise enzymatic cascade reactions. Traditional technology relies on endogenous enzyme systems and has limitations such as low activity and poor specificity.

We were not satisfied with the efficiency of the natural enzyme system. Through artificial directed evolution technology, we successfully obtained an enzyme mutant with a 2.5-fold increase in catalytic activity. These optimized enzymes have stronger binding specificity for target substrates, and at the same time cooperate with metabolic flow regulation to significantly reduce side reaction losses and convert limited substrates into visible light to a greater extent, thus achieving exponential amplification of luminescence effects.
With this interlocking, independent and controllable hard-core technology system, our products now achieve the excellent performance of "the luminous effect can be clearly seen with the naked eye in low-light (not total darkness) environments." This first domestic exhibition quickly attracted heavy coverage from authoritative national media such as CCTV News, bringing the magical charm of synthetic biology to the public eye.

In August, outdoor wonders, proving strength: On the outdoor cliff of Qingdao Underwater World, the world's first "luminescent microbial fluorescent waterfall" created by Shenbi Biotechnology made a shocking debut. Utilizing specially cultivated "Deep Sea Elf" luminous bacteria, the project achieved a stable and bright artistic display in a complex open water environment.
